It's a fact that the news is often guilty, without many people knowing, of putting words and images in their news reports for the purpose of persuading a group of people into thinking things that the broadcasters want them to think. It's a tried-and-true tactic, and it works. It is the reason behind many peoples' craving for reality shows, and on the other hand for not watching the news at all.
Each and every political party on each and every station is guilty of doing this. It is sad that each side must do this, because although I support the cause they're trying to coerce people into thinking, they're doing it in a way that doesn't allow people to form their own opinions. Before you go slamming on my journalism, this IS an opinion journal.
Case in point: Philip A. Cooney, the former chief of staff of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, edited government reports many times to say that human activities have little impact on global warming.
Fact: Human activities DO, indeed, have little impact on global warming.
Problem: Putting spin on things is, although a freedom, makes the children today and the minds of many people uncreative, and in general, jump on a certain bandwagon.
I dislike media spin. It manipulates your opinion, and that is wrong, as you should be entitled to get the whole story. There is no way to stop this spin, but there are definitely ways to avoid it.
Although leftist media bias is rampant (even more rampant than right wing media bias), it's a fact that both sides do it, and the bottom line is that I use both sources for what I say, and that you should too.
Don't let your opinion be because of one source.
